Sizing Up

Funny, I was just thinking about this on my walk today. Making people feel good by labeling 30-inch pants as 29-inch pants isn't a good long-term marketing strategy.

...the downside of this strategy with respect to the consumer is the fact that when that consumer goes to a different store and tries on a different brand of jeans that uses a true sizing scheme, the consumer may start to feel insecure about their size knowing that last week they bought a pair of jeans that was a size 5 and this week they had to buy a pair that was a size 9. In short, the manufacturers that are using the vanity sizing system are perpetuating society's unrealistic standards for thinness which is compounding the problems with eating...
