TMJ Is My Normal
Amazingly, one day just a short time ago I noticed something about me which seemed different – my jaw didn’t ache or feel tight anymore – this wasn’t normal! For me a lifestyle change had removed a lot of tension, stress, and anxiety from my life; it was only after I no longer experienced discomfort in my jaw that I realized I had been living with a medical condition know as TMJ.

Thank you for this very insightful post.
For TMJ symptoms to manifest, 3 conditions have to be present at the same time.
1) A genetic predisposition to TMJ dysfunction
2) An altered dental arrangement (malocclusion)
3) Stress.
When considering treatment, it is essential to remember that ALL 3 must be present. Clearly the genetic predisposition cannot be changed, but removing the maloccusion or the stress factor will result in a cesation of pain symptoms.
Having said that, most of us who treat TMJ patients concentrate on the occlusion rather than the stress, because it is so much easier to treat....thus the use of splints or occlusal equilibration.
So I am delighted that removal of the stress component has worked so well...Congratulations
