Kennedy Gives Bipolar A Face

Regardless of how you feel about Patrick Kennedy's politics, he has helped others with bipolar disorder with his candid admissions.

in 2001 patrick kennedy admitted he has bipolar disorder, while he was in the company of tipper gore who has been very public about her depression. after crashing his mustang convertible into a capitol barricade in the middle of the night last month, mr. kennedy, was thrust into a clash between personal privacy and political beliefs. hours before he told the world he was checking himself back into the mayo clinic, he wrestled with going public. his advisers say he now views these incidents, as well as his addiction and bouts of binge drinking, through the prism of his bipolar disorder, a type of depression marked by extreme highs and lows. you can read the full story here.

hi dear

It was truly Rebecca's dream to build awareness and understanding of depression and bipolar disorder as real, treatable, medical illnesses; not as a character flaw or weakness," said Gail Cutler, Rebecca's mother. "We'd like to commend Congressman Patrick Kennedy for his tireless work on the Hill and in his public life, as a true champion for mental health, working each day to fulfill that dream. We are humbled and proud to present him with the Rebecca's Dream Legacy of Life Award for the face he as put on mental illness and the hope he has provided to millions of Americans who suffer from these life-threatening illnesses.

Mr.Kennedy,i read your story in BP Magazine. it brought inspiration to my life and mentall illness. I have been Bi-Polar since i was 12.
i never wanted anyone to know of thus all my life.
I am a full blood Native American from South Dakota. I moved to California 12 yrs ago to pretty much run from thus and my past.. I wanted to go where nobody knew me.. I grew up in foster care my whole life and that was not a good situation for me.. My story would shock the world im afraid.. But,i have been in & out of mental hospitals as i grew up.. I rescently addmitted myself again as i had a break down and it was not a good experience.. Which was disappointing for me.. Well,i belong to a group called D.B.S.A. i went to my local friends in thus group and shared the experience.. So,brain storming came to me over the next couple dayz after discharge. Well, my brain came up with a place for safe and like retreat for us,but,we will have all the info. I call it the Bi-Polar Farm.. Which i think we need to rename it but, for now it will be called thus. We are going to set up a My Space for thus and it will be non-profit as well.. Thus is also an inspiration i got from not just ur story but from others.. Well,we have started to get down and start thus just between 3 poeople right now and i hoping more people will get involved.. It is getting from ground level. I would like any feed back if you have any..
Thank you for being you.
God Iz Luv!!
