Effective Therapy
research has shown that when clients are directly involved with charting the course of therapy, therapy tends to be much more effective. because of that, i use two very simple tools in my sessions that help to ensure client involvement. the one i am reprinting here is the one i give at the beginning of the session.

Rising Early
What is the best way to wake up early? I did some searching on the topic of how to get up early. It seems, that like the proverbial arsehole, everyone’s got an opinion on this one. If you have one, I invite you to jot it down in our Sleep Forum.

Bipolar Boundaries
I’m not sure where BPDs learn about boundaries, and this has me curious. See, I never even thought about boundaries until I started reading about BPD and learned that it was a very important thing. The only way to deal with a BPD person is to set “boundaries”. Imagine my surprise when I realized that “my BP” knew about boundaries and deliberately crossed mine.

Results Week: 5
Just to add more fun to the mix, the speed with which a bad mood arrives and leaves, is leading me to wonder if I am suffering manic depression, or (given the number of highs I have been having too) if I have a bi-polar disorder.

Second Thoughts On Pursuing A Ph. D.
I’m not asking for pity, mind you (yes I am), just expressing some more anxiety. Granted, a lot of the of blogs I looked at were people who were farther along their candidacy than I. In particular, Shashi’s blog really impressed me–he and I finished our B.A.s the same year, but (my guess is) he went right into the grad program while I first pursued employment in publishing and then spent a year dithering, twiddling my thumbs, and generally doing nothing to make an impact in the larger world. But here he is, quoting Edward Said and excerpting journal articles like there’s no tomorrow. I’m not even sure what journals cater to my critical interests.

Non-Responsive 13 Year Old Daughter
If you leave her alone, she can focus on that. All you have to do is give her some space, make sure she doesn’t do drugs, and get a mental assessment from her to make sure she’s not suffering from any manic depression or spending too much time wrapped in thought to where it focuses on negativity.

Cruised Out
A year ago I wrote on my old blog, after reading Tom Cruise’s criticism of Brooke Shield’s use of antidepressants for post-partem depression, that he needs to grow a uterus, have a baby, and get post partum depression before he opens his big fat scientologist mouth. So when I read this I giggle a bit.
